Holiday Tooth Health

The holidays are busy times, and they are just around the corner. Make sure you are following these principles to ensure a happy and tooth-healthy holiday season.

Brush: Brush your teeth twice a day, for two minutes each time. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush, and replace it every 3-4 months. If your family hasn’t replaced toothbrushes in a while, try buying toothbrushes in holiday colors and using them as small gifts!

Floss: Floss once daily, taking 2-3 minutes for each session. Use 18 inches of single-filament floss and a gentle sawing motion to slip the floss between teeth and remove the plaque and food particles. If you are just starting your flossing habit, it is normal to feel a little discomfort. Don’t let that stop you! If the discomfort persists for more than 2 weeks, talk with one of our dentists.

Candy: The holidays have a lot of sweets involved. Make sure you know how to handle them for maximum tooth health. Make sure you take all sweets in moderation! When you do choose to eat sweets, eat them with protein such as cheese to help neutralize the acids in the sugar. Avoid sticky and hard candies to protect your teeth.
