A Knocked Out Tooth Can be Replaced with a Bridge

Sports injuries are somewhat common for athletes. Dental injuries, oral emergencies, and knocked out teeth are even more common in contact sports. This is especially true if you participate in rigorous athletics and contact sports without the protection of a quality mouth guard.

If one of your teeth is knocked out, the chances are high that the remnants of the tooth will need to be extracted by Dr. Hobart and Dr. Yu so the tooth can be completely replaced by a dental bridge in Bluffton, South Carolina.

A bridge will effectively restore the full function and appearance of the decayed tooth. It is essentially a replacement tooth that is fused to a pair of crowns, that are anchored on the neighboring teeth. The neighboring teeth are also called abutment teeth.

The process of restoring the tooth with a bridge starts with our dentists preparing the two abutment teeth. This is done by shaping the enamel of the two closest teeth. Next our dentists will make an impression of the abutment teeth and your personal bite pattern. This will be sent to our dental lab where your new bridge is made.

Then temporary crowns are cemented over each abutment tooth to protect them while the dental lab is custom making your permanent bridge.

When the dental lab has completed your permanent bridge, First Dental of Bluffton will call you in for a brief second appointment. The temporary crowns will be removed and your new bridge will be cemented in place over the two abutment teeth.

If one of your teeth has been knocked out or lost, call First Dental of Bluffton as soon as possible at 843-757-2828 to schedule an appointment. We look forward to helping you restore the full function of your mouth.
